PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightning arrester having little distortion relative to a force applied in the torsional direction and high rigidity. SOLUTION: This lightning arrester 40 is equipped with a current limiting element 41 sandwiched between terminal electrodes 42 and 43 and FRP rods 46 which bridge a gap between the terminal electrodes 42 and 43. The FRP rods 46 are inserted into rod mounting holes 42c and 43c bored in the terminal electrodes 42 and 43, metal pipe members 47 which are made large in wall thickness toward the outsides of the terminal electrodes 42 and 43 are mounted to the FRP rods 46 protruding from the terminal electrodes 42 and 43, the pipe members 47 are made to abut against the terminal electrodes 42 and 43 and caulked by applying a force from all the circumferential directions, and the FRP rods 46 are polled to fix them to the terminal electrodes 42 and 43.
