PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting an invading object based on images coming from an imaging device, for enhancing the accuracy of detecting any invading object by determining whether or no the invading object is in a stopped state, then taking the object into a background image if it is in the stopped state, and removing the stopped object from the background image if its state is changed from the stopped state to a moving state. SOLUTION: If the amount of movement of an invading object in a predetermined position is less than a predetermined value, either after the elapse of a predetermined period of time or after a predetermined number of a series of processes for detecting any invading object, then a determination is made that the invading object detected as such is in a stopped state; if the amount of movement is not less than the predetermined value, the invading object is determined to be moving. If the object is in a stopped state, the object is taken into a background image serving as a reference for detection of any invading object, so that detection of the object is avoided; the object in the stopped state, if it is moved again after being sampled into the background image, is detected and removed from the background image. |
