PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present an optimum information taking in method in accordance with the set state of a facsimile. SOLUTION: An MPU part 108 acquires the free storage capacity of a memory part 106 for storing an image and a reading mode set by an operator, and finds by which resolution a read image can be stored in the free storage capacity on the basis of the free storage capacity of the memory part 106 and the reading mode. In other words, this processing finds the resolution of the upper limit. The MPU part 108 makes a displaying part 104 display the resolution of the upper limit, receives setting from an operation with respect to only resolution that is equal to or lower than the upper limit and prevents resolution other than the resolution equal to or lower than the upper limit from being selected.
