METHOD FOR HYDROGENATING NITROBENZENE INTO P- AMINOPHENOL IN ONE STEP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrogenating nitrobenzene into p- aminophenol(PAP) in one step in the presence of an inexpensive efficient cata lyst. SOLUTION: This method for hydrogenating the nitrobenzene into the p- aminophenol in one step comprises hydrogenating the nitrobenzene in the presence of an aqueous acid on one or more Ni catalysts at a temperature of 80 to 120 deg.C for one to four hours. The obtained reaction mixture is extracted with an organic solvent such as ethyl acetate, cyclohexane or toluene to separate the aqueous layer containing PAP. The separated aqueous layer is neutralized with an ammonia solution to recover the solid p-aminophenol.
