The first camshaft (26) is driven off the crankshaft (12) and drives the second inlet camshafts (38,40) through gears and sprockets (30,32,34,36). Both cam phase angle adjusters (42,44) are also fitted to camshaft (26), thus forming a radially superposed unit powered by a shared driving element (56). The two adjusters are composed of outer and inner toothed (50,48,62,60) rings (46,58) which differ in toothing angle and cooperate with the complementary ring toothing (52,54,64,66) of the common drive element (56) and output element (68). The two adjusters (46,58) can adjust axially in relation to the drive and output elements. Thus the radially inner adjuster (44) cooperates via outer toothing (54) with the first camshaft (26) as opposed to the outer adjuster (42) which works with the inner toothing of the output gearwheel (30) used to drive the second camshaft (38,40). |
