PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material conveying device capable of keeping the stacking registration of several sheets without disordering pages of the delivered sheets in continuously conveying plural sheets in an overlapped state. SOLUTION: This sheet material conveying device comprises an overlapping mechanism 2A for overlapping a part of a rear end of a leading sheet (document) to a part of a tip of a trailing sheet to form a group of sheets, a wide belt 7 for conveying the group of sheets to a sheet processing part (image reading part), a delivery roller 12 for delivering the sheets, and a delivery tray 10 for stacking the sheets delivered by the delivering roller 12, and the sheets of the processed group of sheets are separated from the trailing group of sheets to be delivered onto the delivery tray 10.
