<p>A closure device is designed for attachment on a neck portion (<bold>1</highlight>) of a separate container (<bold>2</highlight>), preferably of glass material, which holds a first substance. The closure device defines a passage (<bold>10</highlight>) extending between opposite first and second openings (<bold>11, 13</highlight>) of the closure device. A sealing means (<bold>30</highlight>) is arranged to close off the first opening (<bold>11</highlight>) and confine a second substance in the passage (<bold>10</highlight>). A penetration means (<bold>33</highlight>) is incorporated in the device and operable to penetrate the sealing means (<bold>30</highlight>) such that fluid communication is established between the passage (<bold>10</highlight>) and the container (<bold>2</highlight>). In a method of mixing the first and second substances, a medical practitioner exposes the second opening (<bold>13</highlight>) by removing a non-resealable cap (<bold>8</highlight>), by introducing and engaging the end of a syringe directly in the second opening (<bold>13</highlight>), and by operating the penetration means (<bold>33</highlight>) to penetrate the sealing means (<bold>30</highlight>). By operating the syringe, the practitioner can transfer the first and second substances to the syringe, and mix the same in the process, with minimum need for sterilization.</p> |
