A key locking mechanism ensures that the key can only be removed after a pre-determined number of turns to ensure that the shaft is safely clamped for use. The mechanism comprises an inner body 2 which is free to rotate about its axis and provide the clamping force in response to manual turning of an inserted key 6 and an outer body 12 slideably engaged, eg by protrusion 17, within recess 1 of the club shaft, and being capable of linear displacement along the shaft axis. Rotation of key 6 causes such linear displacement by camming action, eg through inter-engaging helical threads 9,13 on respective outer surfaces of the inner body and inner surfaces of the outer body. A locking member, eg a sphere 11 constrained in a radial bore 10 of key 6, co-operates with locking and unlocking surfaces 18, 19 of outer body 12, Fig 1B showing the key captive whilst Fig 1A shows the key free to be removed.
|
