PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily produce a new compound (+)-4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1- cyclohexenyl)butan-2-ol having excellent novelty and retaining properties and a comfortable fragrance accompanied with a high-class feeling at a low cost and to obtain a perfume composition comprising the new compound (+)-4-(2,6,6- trimethyl-1-cyclohexenyl)butan-2-ol having excellent retaining properties and the comfortable fragrance accompanied with the high-class feeling. SOLUTION: A lipase is made to act on racemic 4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1- cyclohexenyl)butan-2-ol in the presence of an acylating agent in an organic solvent to isolate the unreacted new (+)-4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexenyl)butan-2- ol from the resultant reactional mixture. The new compound (+)-4-(2,6,6- trimethyl-1-cyclohexenyl)butan-2-ol has the excellent retaining properties and the comfortable floral-amber fragrance accompanied with the high-class feeling. The perfume composition useful as cosmetics and aromatic agents can be prepared by using the new compound. |
