PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating material capable of forming coating films having excellent weatherability, water resistance, adhesion and the like. SOLUTION: The aqueous coating material comprises a copolymer (X) composed of (A) 5-69.9 mass% (meth)acrylate units having a solubility in water at 20 deg.C of <=0.5 mass% and a glass transition temperature (Tg) of the homopolymer of >=40 deg.C, (B) 30-75 mass% (meth)acrylate units having a solubility in water at 20 deg.C of <=0.5 mass% and a Tg of the homopolymer of <40 deg.C, and (C) 0.1-15 mass% ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a piperidyl group and/or ethylenically unsaturated monomer units having an ultraviolet absorbing group.
