A cover plate (6) covering a folded gasbag (5) fastens on a bodywork part (1) on its end turned towards a motorcycle rider to swivel on an axle (7) running crosswise to the longitudinal axis of a motorcycle. The cover plate curves upwards and can be stopped automatically in its activated position. When inflated, the gasbag protrudes over the upper edge of the cover plate.
