PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve compressive strength when a vehicle collides from a side and reliably absorb collision energy in a protective fence end section buffer device installed at the end sections of guardrails at a branch section of a superhighway or the like. SOLUTION: Sliding beams 5-8 are slidably locked and arranged at the end sections of two guardrails 3 and 4, and a wing beam 9 is provided at the tip section of the sliding beams. Fillers 10-13 preventing the shrinkage of intervals at a vehicle collision are properly arranged between the end sections of two guardrails 3 and 4 and between the sliding beams 5-8. A plurality of tubular energy absorbing members 14 are arranged in series along the sliding direction of the sliding beams in a void surrounded by the sliding beams 5-8 and the fillers 10-13. Two of sliding poles 15-17 are provided on each of the fillers 10-12, and the lower end sections of the sliding poles 15-17 are held slidably along the sliding direction of the sliding beams respectively by two guide rails 19 fixed to a foundation section.
