PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-variable-power and high-performance zoom lens whose angle of view is wide and where distortion aberration is little and aberration fluctuation at the time of varying power is restrained to be little in spite of compact and simple constitution. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is composed of a 1st lens group G1 fixed in the case of varying power and having positive refractive power, a 2nd lens group G2 moving to an image side in the case of varying power from a wide-angle end to a telephoto end and having negative refractive power, a 3rd lens group G3 correcting image surface fluctuation caused with varying power and having positive refractive power and a 4th lens group G4 fixed in the case of varying power and having positive refractive power in order from an object side. When it is assumed that the magnification of the 4th lens group G4 isβ4, the focal distance of the 2nd lens group G2 is f2 and the focal distance of the zoom lens entire system at the wide-angle end is (fw), the zoom lens satisfies conditions of 0.4<β4<0.75 and 2.3<|f2/fw|<4.0 (f2<0).
