A cartridge (3) is detachably mountable on holding means of an ink jet recording apparatus, which is freely reciprocating to scan for recording by discharging ink to a recording medium, and provided with a recording head for discharging ink from plural nozzles formed in parallel on the lower face of the carriage (1) main body facing the recording medium. For the front face (42) of the cartridge main body, an electrical connection portion having electrodes (27) on the cartridge side is provided and electrically connected with electrodes of the holding means on holding means side, and for the rear face (43) being opposite to the front face, an ink connection portion having supply means connected thereto is provided to supply ink to the recording head from the main tank installed on the main body of the ink jet recording apparatus. With the cartridge thus structured, the force exerted for connecting the supply means does not weaken the force exerted on the holding means for positioning, and does not produce any unfavorable effect, either, on the precision with which the cartridge is positioned with respect to the holding means. <IMAGE>
