A personal communication device stores a secret, such as a PIN or password, which may only be accessed after user confirmation. The secret code may be encrypted in the memory of the wireless device. A request for the password may be indicated to the user by a sound, a visual signal or presentation of a menu option. The user may then confirm that a particular password be passed on by providing a secondary access code. The cellular phone may be linked to a non-cellular authentication server by a modem.
