PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyether copolymer that can readily control the upper limit of sulfonic acid introduction causing adverse effect on the mechanical properties wherein the resultant sulfonated polymer shows high proton conductive properties over a wide range of temperature and can give the proton conductive membrane having excellent mechanical strengths, suppressed swelling in warm water and excellent persistency. SOLUTION: The bisphenol units, activated dihalide (when necessary, not- sulfonated bisphenol) are copolymerized to give the objective polyether copolymer with an average molecular weight of 10,000-1,000,000. In addition, the objective proton conduction membrane is produced from the polymer prepared by sulfonation of the polyether copolymer. |
