PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily realize a low cost brake shoe reduced in size without requiring new parts as parking brake force transmitting member, in a U-shaped brake shoe provided with a parking brake mechanism and manufactured in a pressing process of a drum brake. SOLUTION: This U-shaped brake shoe is a drum brake assembly comprising a pair of brake shoes 18. The brake shoe is the U-shaped brake shoe comprising a shoe rim 18a curved to have an approximately circular arc shape, and a pair of parallel flanges 18b, 18b extending to an inside in a radial direction from both peripheral edges of the shoe rim. Both ends of the U-shaped brake shoe are respectively provided with approximately M-shaped reinforcing parts 18c formed such that the shoe rim 18a is folded to an inside in the radial direction, overlapped to the both flanges 18b, 18b, and crushed, and a cutout groove 18d for the parking brake force transmitting member is formed to a part in which the both flanges 18b, 18b are overlapped.
