PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binding instrument, capable of receiving easily binding legs into a base and permitting the base to maintain a posture capable of receiving the binding legs. SOLUTION: The binding instrument 10 is constituted of a pair of binding legs 13, mounted on a cover body 11 so as to be bendable, a base 14, extendable into the lengthwise direction of the same and provided so as to be capable of receiving respective binding legs 13, and a slide member 15, superposed on the base 14 and provided so as to permit a relative movement into the lengthwise direction of the base 14. The slide member 15 is provided so as to permit the binding of a document P with the fall-down posture pinching the binding legs 13 between the sliding member 15 and the base 14. On the other hand, the binding legs 13 can be separated from the base 14 when the sliding member 15 is set at a second position while the sliding member 15 is provided so as to elongate the total length of the base 14 by being projected from the lengthwise directional end of the base 14.
