PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection-type fringe-field switching mode liquid crystal display(FFS-LCD) having improved contrast. SOLUTION: The device includes an upper and a lower substrates, arranged with a prescribed distance and having a unit pixel defined therein, a liquid crystal layer 40 containing a large number of liquid crystal molecules interposed between the upper and the lower substrates, a counter electrode 32 each being formed in the unit pixel of the lower substrate, a pixel electrode 36 which generates a fringe field with the counter electrode for driving most of the liquid crystal molecules in the unit pixel, a horizontal alignment layer 38 interposed between the lower substrate and the liquid crystal layer and having a prescribed rubbing axis, a vertically aligned film 52 interposed between the upper part substrate and the liquid crystal layer, a polarizer 55 disposed on the outer surface of the upper part substrate and having a prescribed polarizing axis, and a reflection means which is disposed on the lower substrate and reflects light made incident from the upper part of the upper substrate. |
