PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved refrigerant management device for an absorption type device. SOLUTION: For the absorption type device, a method and device for managing refrigerant by which a liquid refrigerant is temporarily stored during cooling mode operation and, at the same time, the refrigerant is discharged as necessary for preventing the cavitation of a refrigerant pump during partially loaded operation and the solution in an absorber is diluted when the device is stopped are provided. The refrigerant is stored in a tank (80) arranged in an evaporator (20) and the tank (80) communicates with the sump (24) of the evaporator (20) through a fluid, because the tank (80) has a side opening (86) and the refrigerant overflows the upper edge of the tank (80). The supply of the refrigerant to the tank (80) is made by means of either one of a refrigerant flow from the condenser (70) and bleeding piping from the refrigerant pump.
