ILLUMINATION OPTICAL SYSTEM AND VIDEO PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination optical system which can guide illumination light with a uniform intensity distribution to an inclined surface and is little in the loss of the illumination light. SOLUTION: The illumination optical system 3 is equipped with a light source 10, an integrator 20 for making the intensity distribution from the light source uniform and a relay optical system 30 for imaging the light from the integrator on a surface conjugate with the exit surface of the integrator. The refracting power of a rear lens group 32 of the relay optical system is made asymmetrical with one direction, by which the imaging surface of the light is inclined with the optical axis of the relay optical system.
