PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephoto optical apparatus with which a desired observation target can be easily searched. SOLUTION: The telephoto optical apparatus is constituted to have telephoto means for forming the enlarged image of an observation object, target setting means for setting the observation target according to user operation, a data base for previously storing the presence position of the observation target, retrieval means for referencing the observation target set by the target setting means to the data base and acquiring the information on the presence position of the observation target and guide means for guiding the operation to view the observation target by using the telephoto means according to the presence position of the observation position acquired by the retrieval means.
