PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sterilizing and drying a timber or a wooden product by a wet-heat treatment capable of surely disinfecting and drying the timber or the wooden product of a large quantity in a short time. SOLUTION: The method for sterilizing and drying the timber or the wooden product comprises the steps of introducing the timber or the wooden product into a wet-heat treating unit, supplying a high-pressure steam into the unit to raise its atmospheric pressure to 1.2 to 5 atm, wet-heat treating the timer or the product in a saturated steam atmosphere, and thereafter vacuum pressure- reducing the atmosphere.
