PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main subject detector capable of accurately deciding a subject intended by a photographer, and to provide an automatic focusing camera which can focus the subject intended by the photographer. SOLUTION: This main subject detecting device 140 is provided with a focusing part 142 having three or more focusing points and measuring a subject distance for every focusing point, a focusing control part 141 allowing the focusing means to perform focusing operation several times at the predetermined timing, a subject distance storage part 143 in which the subject distance is stored, and a main subject discrimination part 144 discriminating the main subject by using the subject distance. The discrimination part 144 discriminates the main subject by using the plurality of subject distances. |
