PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound that has high guest cognitive capability that is required in a variety of fields including analysis, separation and refinement. SOLUTION: The objective compound is a novel homo-oxacalixarene represented by the following structural formula (1). The structural formula (2) is one of the specific form of the formula (1) (wherein n is an integer of 3 through 6; in the case of n=3, Rm is iodine or R1; in the case of 3<n<=6, Rm is selected from iodine or R1, or one or more Rm are iodine and the other of Rm are R1; R1 is selected from an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aromatic ring, an alicyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring and a halogen). In addition, this invention provide a method of synthesizing homo-oxacalixarene in which 4-substituted 2,6-diformylphenol represented by the following structural formula (3) (R in (3) is selected from an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aromatic ring, and alicyclic ring, a heterocyclic ring and a halogen) is subjected to the condensation reaction in the presence of a Lewis acid of a trialkylsilane.
