The invention relates to a hydraulic press for producing ceramic shaped bodies, wherein the construction mass of the press cylinder is reduced. According to the invention the mechanical resistance of the material used in the draw and pressure zone is used in an optimal manner, reducing mass and weight. The aim of the invention is, as disclosed in fig. 1, achieved by means of a press cylinder (5) whose casing (20) comprises a pre-tensioned coil (21) made from a wire-type material, and a support (22) for said coil (21).
