PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a reflection-type liquid crystal display which manages both the brightness and visibility in both a screen display, when external light is reflected and a screen display, when an auxiliary light source is used. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display 1 has a forward scattering film 9, a reflective material 11, a light source 5, and a light-guiding part 6. Light emitted from the light source is emitted to the display area 3 of a front substrate 10a from oblique front of a liquid crystal panel surface by the light-guiding part. The course of light is changed by the forward scattering film 9, and made incident vertically on a liquid crystal layer 12. Unlike the reflection semi- transmission type liquid crystal display, the liquid crystal display having this configuration can suppress loss of brightness, because the total reflection of external light can be performed, when it is necessary to obtain brightness for a display by reflecting the external light. Moreover, since a light transmission plate is not present on the display area of the liquid crystal panel, unlike the liquid crystal display of a front light method, the reflection type liquid crystal panel of superior visibility can be provided. |
