PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate made thinner than the conventional polyvinyl alcohol type polarizing plate, besides with excellent durability and without any coloring defect and further to provide a thin liquid crystal display device with excellent display quality using the same. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate having a polarizing layer with 20-1,500 nm thickness formed on a surface of a transparent substrate composed of an amorphous polyolefin resin film e.g. a norbornene resin film is provided. The liquid crystal display device is manufactured by arranging the polarizing plate at least on one surface of a liquid crystal cell.
