PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound of the chemical formula (1) (wherein, R1 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or substituted 1-4C alkyl; R2 is H or cyanoethyl; n is an integer of 1-4; and y is 1 or 2), and to provide an improved method for producing the above compound. SOLUTION: This compound is produced by reaction of acrylonitrile with one or more corresponding alicyclic vicinal diamines in the presence of water and a catalytic amount of an acid catalyst with a pKa of -0.3 to 7.5.
