Aqueous polysaccharide suspensions (I) comprise water, at least 2 wt.% of a nonionic polysaccharide and greater than 4 wt.% of (A) a salt of an at least tetravalent organic acid, (B) at least one quaternary ammonium compound with at least one organic residue having at least 4C atoms and/or (C) at least one compound having at least one acid and one basic group. Independent claims are included for (i) a process for the production of the polysaccharide suspension (I) by addition of an aqueous solution of (A), (B) and/or (C) to a polysaccharide or polysaccharide derivative. (ii) adhesives, thickening agents or color concentrates prepared using the polysaccharide suspension (I).
