The invention relates to a card-shaped data carrier, especially a chip card, consisting of a card body (5) and a display device (4). The card body (5) is provided with at least one partial section (15, 16) which consists of synthetic material at least in the area of the display device (4) that comprises two mechanically flexible carrier layers (10, 11). At least one carrier layer (10, 11) is transparent in the optical spectral region. The display device also comprises a functional layer (12) for displaying information. The functional layer (12) is arranged between the two carrier layers (10, 11). The aim of the invention is to guarantee that the display device (4) is well secured against fracture and that the functional layer (12) is sealed well. At least one of the two carrier layers (10, 11) is formed from a mechanically flexible glass-synthetic material compound which consists of a thin glass layer (13) and the partial section (16) of the card body (5), whereby said section consists of synthetic material. |
