PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair dye composition stable even if containing no reducing agent, and capable of giving glossy dyed hair with intense color especially in a red-color range in a relatively short treatment time when used by mixing with a peroxide just prior to use. SOLUTION: This water-soluble hair dye composition comprises (A) at least one component selected from tetraaminopyrimidine, triaminohydroxypyrimidine and water-soluble salts thereof and (B) an oxidative dye containing at least one coupling agent selected from resorcinol, 2-methylresorcinol and 4- chlororesorcinol and contains no reducing agent.
