PURPOSE: A composition containing an allyl halide compound, its preparation method and an allyl halide compound are provided to an allyl halide compound of the formula 1 from the relatively cheap material with good yield and selectivity of an E geometrical isomer. CONSTITUTION: The composition comprises (E)-1,4-dibromo-2-methyl-2-butene and (Z)-1,4-dibromo-2-methyl-2-butene, wherein the ratio of E-isomer to the total amount is 0.8 or more. The method comprises the step of reacting isoprene with bromine in the presence of an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon of C2-C7 capable of being substituted with one or two halogen atoms, an aliphatic or aromatic ether and an aliphatic or aromatic nitrile, and optionally an inorganic base. Also the composition comprises the allyl halide compound represented by the formula 1, wherein X is Br; Y is ArS(O)2 or RCOO(wherein Ar is an aryl group capable of being substituted and R is H, an alkyl group of low molecular weight or an aryl group capable of being substituted); and the wave-line means that the compound is a mixture of E and Z geometrical isomers. The method comprises the step of reacting the composition containing the allyl halide compound of the formula 1 with the salt represented by YM, wherein M is an alkali metal or quaternary ammonium.
