Compressor with bypass and recirculating means

A compressor 1 for an internal combustion engine includes a wheel 3 in a compressor flow duct 4 and a re-circulation device 11 comprising a bypass 12 from the compressor flow duct 4. A re-circulation ring 13 is arranged in the bypass 12, surrounding the wheel 3, and includes a number of flow ducts 16. The flow ducts 16 have an inlet communicating with the compressor flow duct 4 and an outlet communicating with the bypass 12. The re-circulation ring 13 may extend axially beyond an inlet edge of the wheel 3 or may be aligned with said edge ( figure 4). The flow ducts 16 may be angled in the direction of rotation of the wheel 3, may be rectilinear ( figure 2 ) or curved ( figure 3 ) and may have constant or varying cross sections. A first and second set of flow ducts ( 161, 162 figure 4) maybe arranged along the axis of the wheel 3.
