PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of recording in a ROM or the like, a controlling program to be executed by a controlling means such as a CPU in a printer or setting data used for executing the controlling program, use the memory capacity of the ROM or the like effectively, and easily cope with updating of the version of various kinds of controlling functions. SOLUTION: A printer driver (program or the like) and setting data are stored in a recording medium (CD-ROM) 26. The printer driver and the setting data recorded in the recording medium 26 are installed in a host computer 20. In the case the power-on state of a printer 1 is sensed, the host computer 20 downloads the setting data to the printer 1 via a communication cable 21. The setting data are used for the driving control of a carriage motor (stepping motor) 6 or the like in the printer 1. |
