PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an important intermediate for the production of a chiral metallocene complex suitable as a catalyst component for olefin polymerization. SOLUTION: The objective substituted indene compound can be produced by reacting a compound of formula IV or IVa (R1 to R5 are each a halogen or an alkyl) with a compound of formula I and a compound of formula II and reducing or dehydrating the produced corresponding indanone compound.
