PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method by which high selectivity to an alkyldialkoxysilane or the like, high yield thereof and high conversion of silicon are achieved. SOLUTION: This method for producing the alkoxysilane by reacting metal silicon with a 1-4C alkyl alcohol (methanol, ethanol or the like) and an olefin compound (ethylene, propylene or the like) or the like in the presence of a catalyst in vapor phase has >=20% (especially >=30%) selectivity to the alkyldialkoxysilane (ethyl- or propyldimethoxysilane, etc.), and >=60% (especially 80%) ratio of the alkyldialkoxysilane to the total of the alkyldialkoxysilane and an alkyltrialkoxysilane. Preferably, the reaction temperature is 180-260 deg.C, the partial pressure of the olefin is >=0.3 MPa and the silicon conversion is >=45% (especially >=50%). The proportion of n-propyldimethoxysilane to i- compound is large. The oxygen concentration in a reaction system may be reduced to <=1.0% before starting the reaction.
