PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for processing an image of a portable terminal having a GUI(Graphic User Interface) function is provided to efficiently process display data. CONSTITUTION: A memory(213) stores image data compressed by a DPCM(Differential Predictive Code Modulation) type. A DPCM coder/decoder(222) accesses corresponding compression image data from the memory(213) and recovers the accessed compression image data as original data. A GUI(224) transmits the recovered image data to a display unit(215). The display unit(215) displays display data.
