PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method for a filtration membrane module whereby the recovery percentage of clear water is improved. SOLUTION: In a cleaning method comprising subjecting a filtration membrane module to back washing to separate a muddy substance deposited on a filtration membrane, feeding raw water as cleaning water, and causing the separated muddy substance to be suspended in waste cleaning water and discharged, the waste cleaning water is reused as cleaning water as far as the amount of the muddy substance in the waste cleaning water does not exceed a predetermined value.
