PURPOSE: A hinge device for automatically opening and closing the folder of a portable terminal is provided to automatically and conveniently open and close the folder in a folder type portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A hinge device(30) for automatically opening and closing the folder of a portable terminal consists of a cylindric housing(310), a fixed-side electromagnet(320), a movable-side magnet(330), and a hinge shaft(340). The cylindric housing(310) is extended in the direction of a hinge axis(A). An opening(311), into which the fixed-side electromagnet(320) is inserted, is formed in one end of the cylindric housing(310). In the other end, another opening is provided so that the coupling part(344) of the hinge shaft(340) can penetrate. The fixed-side electromagnet(320), inserted into the cylindric housing(310), includes a pair of curved surfaces(321) and a pair of planes(322). The movable-side magnet(330), located inside of the housing(310) and making a rectilinear motion, comprises a pair of curved surfaces(333) and a pair of planes(334). The hinge shaft(340), extended in the direction of the hinge axis(A), is composed of a shaft part(342) and the coupling part(344). The shaft part(342) includes a spiral protrusion part(342a). A hooking part(346) is formed between the shaft part(342) and the coupling part(344) so that the hinge shaft(340) is arrested in the inside of the housing(310).
