PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling an AMP output of a stereo by using an automatic load detection function and a method therefor are provided to efficiently implement a performance of the digital AMP by controlling an output of the digital AMP to match the load of a speaker or an earphone. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling an AMP output of a stereo by using an automatic load detection function includes a digital AMP(20) having at least one amplification gain for amplifying an inputted digital signal by using one selected from the amplification gains, an output interface(40) connected to a speaker(50) or an earphone to convert the electric signal amplified by the digital AMP(20) into a sound, a load detection part(60) for detecting a load of the speaker(50) or the earphone connected to the output interface(40) and a controller(30). The controller(30) generates a control signal for selecting the amplification gain of the digital AMP(20) in response to the amount of load detected by the load detection part(60).
