PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wash a filter medium in a filter for filtering raw water by making the purified water stored in a purified-water pressurizing tank flow backward into the filter for removing contaminants in the filter. SOLUTION: This water treating apparatus is constituted so that a plurality of valves 16, 28 are arranged on a raw water W supplying side and an outlet side of the filter 18 respectively and the purified water filtered by the filter 18 is made to flow through a conduit 32 or flow backward through a normal flow conduit for using the purified water by changing over the valves 16, 28 selectively so as to backwash the filter 18.
