PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a sufficient amount of gas flow is supplied to a torch to remove heat from an arc and the torch without sacrificing the pressure attained in the nozzle chamber and a cutting speed, and to provide a torch which is easily assembled and with which torch the gas flow is directed from the electrode to the nozzle chamber without using a baffle. SOLUTION: A plasma arc torch and a method is provided by which the gas flow is directed substantially along the whole length of the electrode 40 before the gas is divided into a primary and a secondary flows. The torch 10 includes the electrode 40 which has a metallic holder 41 which forms a plurality of openings 50 at the front end part 45, thus the whole gas is introduced through the plurality of openings 50 into a chamber 90 which is formed with the holder 41 and the nozzle 60. The nozzle has a central hole 67 and a plurality of secondary openings 66 and divides the gas contained in the nozzle chamber into at least the primary and the secondary flows. |
