PURPOSE: A method for low-capacity feature vector tracing and similarity measurement is provided to efficiently express and process the iris pattern by using the minimum information space through the multiple division of a video signal. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of gaining the image of an eye including the iris area from a user by using an image acquisition device, tracing the iris area from the input image through pre-processing, sampling a feature value by processing the iris image with the wavelet transform, generating a binary feature vector by applying a K-level quantization function, and measuring the similarity of the generated feature data to the registered data of a user. The iris area is transformed to a polar coordinates system and provided as the input of a feature tracing module. The traced feature has an actual number. According to the result, the authenticity of the user is decided.
