A method of casting a stud of abrasion resistant metallic material having one generally cylindrical end portion engageable with stud welding equipment and an opposite generally cylindrical end portion weldable to a metallic surface. A mold is provided with two separable parts each having a mold cavity, one mold cavity being shaped to form one end portion of the stud and the other mold cavity being shaped to form the opposite end portion of the stud. The mold is closed to cause the mold cavities to define a volume corresponding to that of the stud, molten abrasion resistant metallic material is passed into the mold cavities, and the material is allowed to solidify and thereby form a stud. The mold is then opened and the stud removed. |
