PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical converter that can distinguish, through remote supervision of customer channels from the inside of a station office, a fault caused after a communication channel of another station at a remote end from a fault caused in an optical fiber span in the case of executing an Ethernet (R) service by a communication system carrier using an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical converter that is connected to a device of its own station via a communication channel, opposed and connected to an optical converter of another station via an optical fiber, is provided with an optical transmission signal modulation means 30 that adopts DC light emission for an output of a laser diode 12 emitted toward the optical fiber on the occurrence of a fault in a communication channel of its own station or below, an optical reception signal monitor means 33 that monitors whether or not a DC component of an optical reception signal received from the optical fiber has a threshold value or more, and a reception signal detection means 26 that detects whether or not a data signal demodulated from the optical reception signal has a prescribed value or below. |
