PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming an area gradation image which reduces uneven density in a formed image and has uniformity and stability in a silver halide photosensitive material having high silver chloride content. SOLUTION: The silver halide photosensitive material, including a silver halide emulsion layer with an average silver chloride content of >=95 mole% and having a short side length of >=400 mm, is exposed at an exposure part in which a plurality of light sources are arranged in the subscanning direction, and thereafter, the exposed photosensitive material is subjected to developing processing. At least either the silver halide emulsion layer or its adjacent non- photosensitive colloidal layer contains a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound having 8.5 to -9.8 eV of an energy level of HOMO and 0.9 to -2.2 eV of an energy level of LUMO.
