PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backup system in a flat knitting machine on a power failure, which can judge and display whether a knitting operation can be continued or not after the recovery of a power failure, when the power failure occurs during a knitting operation, and can, if necessary, carry out a treatment for recovering the state of the knitting machine, when it is judged that the knitting operation can be continued. SOLUTION: An information-writing means writes information related to the state of the knitting machine in a memory means, when the power failure is detected during a knitting operation. After the recovery of the power failure, a prediction means predicts the state of the knitting machine, happened during the power failure from the information related to the knitting machine and written in the memory means. A judging means judges whether the knitting operation can be continued or not, and then displays the judged result on a display means. When the knitting operation can be continued, a recovery treatment means, if necessary, carries out a recovery treatment.
