PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent image pickup unit by which a circuit scale is reduced to miniaturize the unit, power consumption is saved and also image quality is not deteriorated even at a function changeover point. SOLUTION: The imaging unit A/D-converts an image pickup signal and processes the signal by a digital system. A gamma circuit 305 is obtained by adding a straight line passing an origin to a first curve in a gamma area and by adding a prescribed value to a second curve in the knee area.
