PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device which has a USB interface and transfers data recorded on a loaded recording medium in an isochronous transfer mode when the data are image data or audio data. SOLUTION: The external storage device 10 having the USB interface 14 is provided with a reading-out section 11 which reads out data from the recording medium 15, a transfer mode selecting section 12 which selects the isochronous transfer mode as the transfer mode of the data recorded on the medium 15 when the data are image data and/or audio data or a bulk transfer mode as the transfer mode of the data when the data are not image data nor audio data, and a data transferring section 13 which transfers the data read out from the medium 15 by means of the reading-out section 11 in the transfer mode selected by means of the selecting section 12.
